About the Portal
The AccesoAbierto.net web site is the main channel for disseminating the progress of our research group on open access to science in Spain. It aspires, as well, to become a major resource on existing information on OA from around the Hispanic world.
The site is targeted primarily at authors (who seek information on rights and conditions for self-archiving their publications), librarians (who need information about existing rights policies of journals and repositories), academic and research managers (who are interested in knowing what policies are in effect elsewhere), and those interested in open access in general.
Contents of the site
• "Documents": includes reports and publications produced by members of the research group.
• "Blog": information and commentary on issues related to open access for science in Spain (conferences, law, literature, etc.).
• "BuscaRepositorios": database of institutional repositories in Spain.
• "Dulcinea": database on Spanish scientific journals’ copyright policies, including their conditions for self-archiving.
Areas of research
The overall objective of our research is to analyze the current situation of open access strategies in Spain, particularly those related to the creation of institutional repositories and to self-archiving, in existing IRs. As a result of this analysis, our aim is to propose strategies, policies and recommendations for future progress along these lines.
Research group action lines:
1. Determine the level of knowledge of, and involvement with, the Open Access movement on the part of Spanish universities and public research organizations (IPOs), especially regarding their policies for promoting the free dissemination of knowledge.
2. Perform a census of institutional repositories, analyze their self-archiving policies and formal characteristics, and assess the degree of adherence to DRIVER criteria and DINI certification.
3. Analyze open access economic models, including their sustainability.
4. Identify the best means for promoting active policies among universities and public research organizations, to contribute to the free dissemination of knowledge throughout Spanish society
